Mount Baldy is an eleven thousand sixty-eight-foot peak in northern Utah on the boundary of Salt Lake and Utah counties, southeast of Salt Lake City. Rising above the Alta Ski Area in the Wasatch Range, it is especially notable for its steep relief, with the summit climbing about three thousand feet above Little Cottonwood Canyon in just one and a half miles. Its north slope drains into Little Cottonwood Creek, while its south slope feeds the headwaters of the American Fork River. At this elevation, the mountain has a subarctic climate bordering on alpine, with snowy winters, cooler summers, and precipitation throughout the year.
