Downtown Winslow Commercial Historic District comprises three buildings and represents some of the last links to Winslow’s heyday as a resort town. One building dates to 1929; two older ones burned in 1935 and were rebuilt about 1938. Maud Dunlap Duncan ran a drugstore downstairs and the local newspaper upstairs at 108 N. Winslow Blvd. from the early 1900s. In 1925 she was elected mayor alongside an all-woman city council, and her “petticoat government” was nationally reported. Actor Walter Brennan’s final film, the 1975 Civil War-era drama Smoke in the Wind, used the building at 150 N. Winslow Blvd. as a filming location. The district was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
