Built in the early 1930s as the centerpiece of Edsel Ford's working farm at Haven Hill, this huge barn expressed the merging of agriculture and industry advocated by Henry Ford. It first housed 1,500 sheep, which were later replaced by horses and cattle. After the State of Michigan acquired the Haven Hill property in the 1940s, the barn served as a woodshop, warehouse, and winter warming station for skiers before being permanently closed in 1980. Enclosing 15,00 square feet of space, it was one of the largest barns east of the Mississippi River, and high winds partially blew it down in 2008.
