The centerpiece shows personnel from different military branches and time periods of U.S. history saluting the flag and those who lost their lives in the service of their country as a bugler plays taps. The left mosaic honors contributions made on the home front during World War II, and the right mosaic shows typical military actions during combat. It was designed and developed by artist Clint Hansen of Audubon, Iowa, and dedicated on August 17, 2003.
