"The Great Trail"
Transportation
5
In colonial times, the Great Trail crossed the ridge at this point. As the trail widened, it generally provided the route for what is now Pancake Clarkson Road. The Rising Sun Tavern, an early stagecoach hostelry, stood here. The route was also called the Tuscarawas Trail because it passed the old town of Tuscarawas at the crossing of the Tuscarawas River near Bolivar.
