Breakneck Pond
Nature
Breakneck Pond is a 92-acre lake in Union, Connecticut, with a small portion extending into Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and is surrounded by Nipmuck State Forest. Although it reaches only 12 feet at its deepest point, its undeveloped shoreline gives it a secluded character. Access comes by trails from Bigelow Hollow State Park, and the prohibition of motorized vehicles and boats preserves a quiet setting suited to hiking and other low-impact recreation. Three campsites are located around the lake, which also serves as the northern end of the Nipmuck Trail.
