The Rowan County War, also known as the Tolliver-Martin Feud, lasted from 1884 to 1887 and was known as the bloodiest of the eastern Kentucky feuds. It claimed at least 20 lives and resulted in the wounding of at least 16 others. Those who died during the conflict were Solomon Bradley, Stewart Bumgardner, Stewart Caudill, Hiram Cooper, John C. Day, John G. Hughes, H.M. (Mason) Keeton, John B. Logan, William H. Logar, William O. Logan, John Marlow, John P. Martid, Whit Pelfresy, Ben Rayburnn, Craig Tolliver, Floyd Tolliver, Jacob E (Jay) Tolliver Jr, John R. (Budd) Tolliver, Wylie V. Tolliver, and John O. Whtcher.
