Caney School District No. 34 was served by a first school board consisting of Dr. A.M. Taylor as treasurer, C.H. Smith as clerk, S.H. Ridgeway as director, J.W. Hodges as director, and Berryman Smith as director, and its first teachers were Mrs. Omer M. Smith, Miss Billie Smith, and Mrs. Adda Barrington.
