The “Walking Stick” Cannon was manufactured in 1822 at Fort Pitt Foundry in Pitts. Pa. as a 6 pound shell cannon with a 3 5/8 bore and a weight of 742 lbs. Its impractical slender design caused the barrel to burst. Only 100 were manufactured, and only 14 of this style survive in the United States. Eight men were needed to fire one shell. It first served at Sinclair Tank farm east of Caney, and was later obtained by the city as a War Memorial and a monument to peace because it never fired a shot in anger.
