New Discovery State Park, in the northern part of Groton State Forest near Marshfield, spans nearly 7,000 acres of woodland, ponds, and mountains centered on Osmore Pond and Owl's Head Mountain. Developed as one of seven parks in the forest, it grew from Vermont's early 20th-century land acquisitions and was substantially shaped in the 1930s by Civilian Conservation Corps crews, who built roads, trails, picnic grounds, a campground, and facilities at Lake Osmore and Owl's Head, including a small stone observation tower. The survival of these well-preserved CCC features led to the park's historic recognition in 2002, and they continue to define its recreational landscape.
