The Miller Block is a large red and gray sandstone building built in 1888 by Frank Miller. It was the first in Colorado to use the Howe Truss, intended to support the ceiling from the roof and leave the first floor free of any posts. The building also supposedly had another unique feature, a two-story outhouse that was torn down in 1948. Miller operated his liquor store in the building for a number of years, and for nearly 50 years it also housed a large department store called The Fair Store, which specialized in fine china and used the slogan "Remember the Fair For Dinnerware."
