The Cache la Poudre-North Park route follows Colorado Highway 14 for 101 miles one-way between Interstate 25 in Fort Collins and Colorado Highway 125 in Walden, crossing Cameron Pass and entering North Park beside Colorado’s only National Wild and Scenic River. Along the route are recreation sites, campgrounds, picnic areas, restaurants, and stores, with further information available at the Arrowhead Lodge and Moose Visitor Center. The headwaters of the Cache la Poudre River are in Rocky Mountain National Park, and the river runs 126 miles to its confluence with the South Platte River just east of Greeley. It is a multi-use working river that provides clean water for agriculture, communities, and recreation along the Front Range. Indigenous peoples were the first stewards of this land, and the first documented Euro-American explorations into the canyon were made by French and Spanish fur trappers in the 1800s. In 1986, 76 miles of the Cache la Poudre River were designated a Wild and Scenic River, the only such river in Colorado.
