Cronin Peak is a 13,877-foot mountain in central Colorado’s southern Sawatch Range, within San Isabel National Forest and southwest of Nathrop. Though just below the state’s fourteen-thousand-foot class, it remains a major summit, reaching 4,230 meters above sea level. Its greatest historical significance lies in its name, which honors Mary Cronin. In 1934, she became the first woman to climb all 53 of Colorado’s fourteeners, linking the peak to an important chapter in the history of Colorado mountaineering. Cronin Peak is remembered both as one of the Sawatch’s high summits and as a tribute to that achievement.
