Rev. James Caldwell, in whose honor this community was named, early espoused the country’s cause in the War for American Independence. He served in Washington’s Army as chaplain and deputy quartermaster general and was remembered as a sterling patriot, fearless preacher, and martyr on freedom’s altar.
