Flatwood was the center of a strong Spartanburg County agricultural community from the 1800s to 1962. Remembered for strong family ties and caring people, it was known for outstanding family farm operations that included cotton, corn, grain, peaches, and cattle. Flatwood was home to Flatwood grammar school from 1920 to the 1950s, Flatwood Championship Basball Teams from 1930 to 1960, and the Cross Road Stores Junction.
