In the spring of 2023, with help from the St. Charles Public Works Department, grasses and weeds were removed from each of the museum's gardens. Master Gardener Volunteers then selected a garden for each team to care for, researched 1933 garden types, designs, and plants, and chose a theme for each space. Before planting, the teams faced obstacles including weeds, poor soil, full sun, all shade, and rainwater run-off. They continue to work together to refresh and maintain the gardens. The garden in front of the Founders Wall was planted to keep the founders' names visible and draw attention to the wall, using seasonal plants including Creeping Jenny, Black-eyed Susans, and spring bulbs. The Eastside Garden is to be determined in 2025.
