Letterbreckaun, a 677-metre peak in Connemara, County Galway, is the second-highest mountain in the Maumturks and stands along the range’s central spine. Its name derives from Irish forms meaning “Brecan’s hillside” or “Brecan’s peak,” linking it with Saint Brecan, traditionally associated with Galway and as successor to Saint Enda of Aran. Distinctive for its sharply pyramidal western profile, it is connected southward by a quartzite ridge to Knocknahillion and descends northward toward the pass of Maam Turk, where a holy well was recorded in 1684 in memory of St Fechin. The mountain is a popular walking destination and part of the Maamturks Challenge.
