Mount Tecumseh in New Hampshire’s White Mountains was named for the Shawnee leader Tecumseh, who lived from about 1768 to 1813. Its eastern slopes drain into the Mad River, and its western side drains through brooks that ultimately reach the Pemigewasset, the Merrimack, and the Gulf of Maine. The mountain is also home to Waterville Valley Resort, one of the state’s largest ski areas. Long believed to stand 4,003 feet high and recognized as the lowest peak on the Appalachian Mountain Club’s four-thousand-footer list, it was measured at 3,997 feet by a summit survey marker placed in July 2019.
