Mears Peak is a 13,496-foot summit in southwestern Colorado on the boundary of Ouray and San Miguel counties, in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness of Uncompahgre National Forest. In the Sneffels Range of the San Juan Mountains, it stands west of the Continental Divide and west of Mount Sneffels, with especially steep local relief as its south side rises sharply above the San Miguel River. Its runoff drains south to the San Miguel River and north toward the Uncompahgre River by Dallas Creek. The name was officially adopted in 1970 to honor Otto Mears, whose road and railroad building helped open Colorado’s San Juan country.
