North Pole Peak is a 12,208-foot mountain in southwestern Colorado in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness, about nine miles northwest of Telluride. Part of the Sneffels Range in the San Juan Mountains, it stands on Uncompahgre National Forest land west of the Continental Divide and forms the range’s northern end. Its terrain is notably steep, rising about 1,200 feet above Middle Fork Leopard Creek in only 0.3 mile, with runoff flowing into Leopard Creek and then the San Miguel River. Hayden Peak is the nearest higher summit. Reaching the summit is considered challenging, and the mountain lies in an alpine subarctic climate with long snowy winters and storm-prone summers.
