In 1883 this historic church bell hung in a pioneer era chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The bell was relocated in 1959 to a new church meetinghouse constructed on this site. In 1968 a pre-dawn fire destroyed the chapel, but the bell was undamaged. A replacement meetinghouse was completed in 1970 and the bell was installed in a new bell tower. As a result of renovations to this meetinghouse in 2019, the bell was removed from the existing bell tower and placed as a memorial to the role it has played in community worship for 136 years.
