During the 1930's, one of the most important programs within President Roosevelt's New Deal was the Civilian Conservation Corps. Its enrollees were unmarried men between the ages of 18 and 25. Each worker received a monthly wage of $30, with $25 sent home to help their family. Each camp consisted of about 200 young men, was under the supervision of the U.S. Army, and had construction work supervised by National Park Service staff. The abandoned pump house at Boiling Springs State Park, built by the CCC, once served as the lifeline for the CCC camp and the early park by supplying well water that filled the park's original storage tower in Group Camp #2.
