Samson Peak is a 3,081-metre mountain in Jasper National Park, Alberta, on the eastern shore of Maligne Lake in the Queen Elizabeth Ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Its name is linked to Mary Schäffer’s 1908 search for the long-elusive lake, when she honored Samson Beaver, a Stoney man who had guided her by drawing a map from memory based on his earlier journey there with his father. Schäffer also named nearby Leah Peak for Samson’s wife. The mountain was first climbed in 1928, its name was officially adopted in 1947, and its runoff drains through Maligne Lake and River to the Athabasca.
