Mount Unwin is a 3,268-metre peak in Jasper National Park above the west side of Maligne Lake in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies, within the Queen Elizabeth Range. The mountain is linked to the early exploration of the Maligne Lake area: in 1908, Mary Schäffer named it for her guide and companion Sidney Unwin, who climbed it while assisting her search for the then-elusive lake. Schäffer also named other nearby peaks, and Mount Unwin became the mountain’s official name in 1947. Its subarctic setting brings cold, snowy winters, mild summers, and drainage into the Maligne River within the Athabasca River system.
