The National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, honors recipients of the United States Armed Forces’ highest award for valor and also serves as home to the National Medal of Honor Museum Leadership Institute, focused on character development for young people. After plans to build it at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, collapsed amid scrutiny and criticism, Arlington was selected in 2019 following a five-year national competition. Designed by Rafael Viñoly, the museum broke ground on March 25, 2022, and opened on March 25, 2025. Built through private donations, it emerged as a major commemorative and educational institution despite debate over how some recipients’ stories would be represented.
