Brian E. Yates served as a Newton City Councilor from 1987 to 2017 and was founder and president of Friends of Hemlock Gorge, founder of the Upper Falls Improvement Association, and co-founder and first president of the Upper Falls Community Development Corporation. He was a strong and faithful advocate for libraries, neighborhood schools, green space, historic preservation, and Newton Upper Falls.
