Clackamas Wilderness is a federally protected backcountry area in Oregon’s northwestern Cascades within the Mount Hood National Forest. Created by the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, it encompasses 9,470 acres along fifty miles of the Clackamas River corridor. Instead of a single continuous expanse, it consists of five separate roadless tracts: Big Bottom, Memaloose Lake, Clackamas Canyon, Sisi Butte, and South Fork Clackamas. The area is especially significant for its roadless terrain and some of the biggest trees in northwest Oregon. Memaloose Lake is among its best-known destinations, reached by a popular trail that continues to a viewpoint on South Fork Mountain.
