In 1866, pioneers gathered the stones in this base from the river channel and bench lands surrounding Logan to build a fort wall around the tabernacle square. Time proved that a fort was not necessary, and in 1870 the stones were built into a wall surrounding the Logan tithing yard. In loving memory of those early builders, this drinking fountain was built with those stones in gratitude to the pioneers, with the hope that it would continue as a wall of protection for the health and happiness of the community.
