Since the Civilian Conservation Corps built this local-stone amphitheatre in the 1930s, political speeches, group baptisms, concerts, and other events have drawn spectators there. It is one of South Carolina's only remaining amphitheaters with classic CCC features. Capitalizing on the contours of the land as the ancient Greeks did, the CCC created an open-air theater with natural acoustics and a good view of the stage from any seat, while leaving trees standing within the site.
