Dewey Mountain, a two thousand ninety-foot peak in Franklin County, New York, stands just south of Saranac Lake and helps frame the village with Baker Mountain and Mount Pisgah above the landscape around Lake Flower. Once called Ring Hill, it includes a shoulder known over time as Blood Hill, Maple Hill, and Reservoir Hill, with Kiwassa Lake Road running along its eastern side. The mountain has long been tied to local skiing. In the nineteen twenties, weekly ski meets there drew competitors from around New England, New York City, and Montreal, and in the nineteen forties a downhill area on its west side used a rope tow. That tradition continues today through the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center.
