Mount Colvin is one of New York’s Adirondack High Peaks, ranking as the region’s thirty-ninth highest summit and valued for its sweeping views of many prominent surrounding mountains, especially the Great Range. Its broad outlook makes it a notable vantage point within the High Peaks. The mountain is named for Verplanck Colvin, the Adirondack explorer who directed the survey that mapped much of the region. Originally called Mount Sabele, it received its present name when a member of Colvin’s survey team chose to honor him instead. Mount Colvin remains closely associated with both Adirondack scenery and the nineteenth-century surveying that shaped understanding of the region.
