Centre Covered Bridge, also known as the Sanborn Covered Bridge, spans the Passumpsic River on the north side of Lyndonville, Vermont. Built in 1872 and moved to its present site in 1960, it is a single-span Paddleford truss, a once-distinctive New England bridge type that is now rare in Vermont. The bridge is notable for its metal roof, segmented-arch portals, and an unusual cantilevered sidewalk along the east side found on only a few Vermont covered bridges. Though its deck and walkway have deteriorated and it is no longer usable, it remains the longest of Vermont’s three surviving Paddleford truss bridges and retains strong 19th-century character.
