Long Point Light stands at the northeastern tip of Long Point in Provincetown, marking the southwestern edge of Provincetown Harbor’s entrance and guiding vessels into what was once a busy fishing port. Authorized in 1826 and completed in 1827 as a lantern atop a keeper’s house, it reflected an early Cape Cod design before erosion and decay led to construction of the present brick lighthouse in 1875. The station later gained improved optics, a fog signal, automation, and solar power. It once stood beside the vanished village of Long Point and near Civil War earthworks, and today it remains, with its oil house, within the Cape Cod National Seashore.
