Lawrence Heritage State Park in Lawrence, Massachusetts preserves the city’s industrial past through three units on or near the Merrimack River, linking the mills’ history to the landscape that powered them. Created through the state’s heritage parks program, it opened in 1980, with its visitor center restored in 1986 in an 1840s boarding house. Exhibits center on 19th-century mill workers, Lawrence’s textile era, and the region’s industrial history. Its outdoor areas connect that story to the riverfront through views of the mills and dam, trails, boating, and other recreation. The park also serves as a civic gathering place through festivals, performances, and everyday public use.
