The Harvey Butler Memorial Rhododendron Sanctuary is a 30-acre nature reserve in Springvale, Maine, on Route 11A. Open to the public, it is owned by the New England Wild Flower Society, the organization that also maintains Garden in the Woods. Its best-known feature is a 5.3-acre stand of great laurel, or Rhododendron maximum, set within a broader sanctuary that also supports spicebush, clintonia, painted trillium, and at least 39 species of wildflowers. It is both a botanical destination and a protected patch of native plant habitat.
