North Swiftcurrent Glacier
Nature
North Swiftcurrent Glacier is a small remnant of ice in Glacier National Park, Montana, just east of the Continental Divide and north of Swiftcurrent Mountain at elevations between about 7,000 and 8,000 feet. It is no longer one large glacier but several remnant glaciers and ice patches. None is larger than 19 acres, which is below the 25-acre size often cited as the minimum for an active glacier. From 1966 to 2005, it lost more than 32 percent of its area, illustrating the long-term retreat of ice in Glacier National Park.
