John W. Wentworth was a colorful Arizona pioneer and faithful Gila County public servant who, at intervals from 1885 to 1947, occupied various offices within the walls of the three courthouses erected on this spot. His last office was Clerk of the Superior Court from 1912 to 1947, establishing a national public service record.
