War Bonnet Peak is a 12,487-foot mountain in Wyoming’s southern Wind River Range on the Continental Divide, just across Jackass Pass from Mitchell Peak. Rising above the south side of the Cirque of the Towers, it stands in one of the range’s best-known climbing landscapes, marked by steep rock, high passes, and demanding backcountry travel. Its setting in serious alpine terrain makes it part of an area valued for climbing but also known for danger. Bears, wildfires, snow, insects, cold nights, and fatal falls and rockfall have all been hazards in this rugged stretch of the Divide.
