Block Tower
Nature
Block Tower is a twelve-thousand-two-hundred-fifteen-foot mountain in Wyoming’s southern Wind River Range, standing on the Continental Divide beside the Cirque of the Towers, a well-known climbing area. Near Watch Tower and Sharks Nose, it rises in steep alpine country that attracts climbers and backpackers as part of a broader landscape of rugged rock, high passes, and fast-changing mountain conditions. Travel here involves serious dangers, including bears, bugs, wildfires, snow hazards, cold nights, and especially class four and five terrain where falls and rockfall can be fatal. The surrounding range has seen multiple serious accidents and deaths over the years, including in 1993, 2007, 2015, and 2018.
