Watch Tower
Nature
Watch Tower is a 12,331-foot mountain in Wyoming’s southern Wind River Range, on the west side of the Cirque of the Towers near the Continental Divide. It helps form the rugged granite skyline of one of the range’s best-known climbing areas, in a landscape long tied to mountaineering and backcountry travel. Its high alpine setting gives it both striking beauty and serious hazards. Bears, insects, wildfires, difficult snow, and sharp nighttime cold affect the surrounding backcountry, while nearby class 4 and 5 terrain has seen fatal falls and rockfall. Watch Tower remains significant as one of the summits defining this celebrated yet demanding mountain region.
