Cathole Mountain, a five hundred fifteen-foot peak in Meriden, Connecticut, is the lowest summit in the trap rock Hanging Hills and is known for its steep southern ledge line rising about one hundred fifty feet above the city. The mountain has two prominences, with southern ledges at three hundred forty-one feet and the main peak about a mile farther north. Cathole Pass separates it from South Mountain as Connecticut Route seventy-one climbs through the narrow rocky gap. The fifty-one-mile Metacomet Trail crosses the mountain and overlooks the pass. The area is used for hiking, rock climbing, and winter snowshoeing, while private ownership affects access on the northern half.
