Young Conservation Area is a 970-acre protected tract in north-central Jefferson County, Missouri, acquired by the Missouri Department of Conservation in 1986 through donation and purchase. Formerly known as Hilda Young Conservation Area, it is largely wooded, with most of its land covered by oak, maple, hickory, and other native forest. LaBarque Creek, glades, open fields, tree plantations, ponds, and forest create varied habitat for white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and squirrels. The area includes Austrian pine and black walnut groves, a 2.5-mile Taconic Loop Trail, and stocked ponds, and it is managed for low-impact recreation such as hunting, fishing, nature study, photography, picnicking, and seasonal frogging.
