Cilley Covered Bridge in Tunbridge, Vermont, carries Howe Lane over the First Branch White River and is one of the town’s surviving nineteenth-century covered bridges. Built in 1883, it is a single-span king-post truss bridge measuring 66 feet long and 19 feet wide, with a one-lane roadway on stone abutments. Its skewed trusses create an unusual parallelogram form, and practical features such as square window openings on the south side improved visibility near a sharp turn. Little altered since construction, it preserves its late-nineteenth-century character and stands within a seven-mile river stretch where six covered bridges survive, an exceptionally dense concentration in Vermont.
