Lords Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area in North Dakota’s Bottineau and Rolette counties, managed under J. Clark Salyer National Wildlife Refuge. It is a limited-interest refuge, a category established in the 1930s and 1940s as declining waterfowl populations and Depression-era programs drove efforts to improve habitat and provide work. Rather than being federally owned, the refuge consists of private land under a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service easement, allowing habitat management while ownership stays private. The refuge itself is closed to public access, although wildlife may be viewed from nearby public roads.
