Nature
Galehead Mountain is a summit in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, in the Twin Range between South Twin Mountain and Mount Garfield. Named for its position above the headwaters of the North Branch of the Gale River, it is commonly reached by way of Galehead Hut, with the Frost Trail leading to the summit and the Gale River Trail providing the most direct access from a road. The Appalachian Trail crosses the mountain’s northern side, connecting it to the long route from Georgia to Maine. Galehead is also important as a watershed divide, with drainage flowing toward both Long Island Sound and the Gulf of Maine.
