In 1799 Peter Tompkins kept an inn and tavern at this corner in a former tailor shop. Sometime after 1811, when Vernon Turnpike (Route 94) was incorporated, the Stewart House was built next door. In the mid 1800's the inn was removed and the house was enlarged toward Sand Hill Road. Named Willow Tree Farm, the property later gained a large ell added by the Truesdell family in 1907. The Stewart House now sits across Sand Hill Road after being moved from this location in 2010.
