Mount Sefrit is a 7,191-foot peak in Washington’s North Cascades, within the Mount Baker Wilderness and north of Mount Shuksan. Surrounded by the valleys of Ruth Creek and the Nooksack River and linked to Ruth Mountain by Nooksack Ridge, it rises from the sharp ridges and glacially carved valleys that define the range’s rugged landscape. That terrain reflects a long geologic history shaped by tectonic activity, the assembly of terranes about 50 million years ago, and later Pleistocene glaciations. The mountain was named for Frank Ira Sefrit, longtime editor and publisher of The Bellingham Herald, and its name was officially adopted in 1952.
