Pass Creek Bridge in Drain, Oregon, spans a crossing with a long transportation history tied to stagecoach, road, and railroad routes. An earlier bridge here carried an 1876 extension of the Overland Stagecoach route between Roseburg and Scottsburg, and by 1895 a covered railroad bridge stood beside the covered stagecoach bridge. The present bridge, a practical Howe truss covered bridge with cedar siding and likely reused hand-hewn timbers, has a disputed construction date of 1906 or 1925. Moved in 1987 behind the Drain Civic Center, it later served pedestrians until closing in 2014 because of deterioration, while still reflecting Drain’s layered past.
