Route 66 was established in 1926 as the original U.S. Highway linking Chicago and Los Angeles, and the route passed right by this property. During its early years, automobiles were fairly primitive and unreliable, and cars similar to this "Model T" kiddie ride were used to travel the route. Driving through the hot desert during the summer meant traveling with no air conditioning.
