Rabb Lake National Wildlife Refuge
Nature
Rabb Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Rolette County, North Dakota, is managed as part of J. Clark Salyer National Wildlife Refuge. It is a limited-interest refuge, a form established in the 1930s and 1940s as waterfowl populations fell and Great Depression programs aimed to provide work. At Rabb Lake, the federal government does not own the land outright but holds an easement on private property. This allows the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to manage habitat, control water levels, and limit hunting while the land remains privately owned. The refuge is closed to public access, though wildlife may be viewed from nearby public roads.
